Dear Dhamma Friends:     Last updated on 2014/2558 9 8, a full moon day;

Buddha sasana means in our Lord Buddhas word the dhamma-vinaya the heritage that he will leave behind to his Sangha to carry out the ministry of the Sasana to the end of the dispensation。 Here Buddha said, his heirs Sangha he means Bhikkhu and Bhikkhuni。 After a long lapse of defunct Bhikkhuni Sangha, (for over 1,000 years) many in Theravada countries hardly know the true meaning of the term Sangha

Dhamma Vinaya is complete only when both Bhikkhu and Bhikkhuni are actively carrying out the Sasana work。 For that reason, in recent time, there were several attempts made to revive the Bhikkhuni sasana in Myanmar by few learned famous Sayadaws

There was one attempt in the 1930s, by a very learned monk named Shin Adicca。 The learned Bhikkhu U Adicca agitated for nun's ordination as early as the 1930s。 Then in 1950, Mahasi Sayadaw's teachers, the Jetavana Sayadaw, made another attempt for Bhikkhuni revival。

If any one have read the Mahaparinibbana sutta will clearly knows the true meaning of the word SANGHA which means Bhikkhu and Bhikkhuni

The Sri Lanka, and Thailand both have revived the Bhikkhuni Sasana in recent time。 There are a few Theravada countries that are still opposed to the revival。 Let the history be the judge when lay people and sangha come to senses in interpreting the true meaning of the term Sangha
